I had an absolute blast with this! I didn't realize that I had two dashes until - by accident - I hit the button again on screen three (I was like 'is there a trick I'm missing?'). Then I got to the end and saw there was a difficulty option, I realized that no, that actually was an intended other way to play! I probably won't attempt hard mode just yet, but in all, a very good way to spend an hour.
that's really strange, never heard of anything like that happening in PICO-8 games before.
make sure you're focused on the game screen by clicking on it, and if that doesn't fix it, let me know what os / browser you're using and i'll see what i can do
well, kinda, number 1 tip is try to be able to beat the original celeste classic, which you can find by just searching up celeste classic in search, its a much easier game and better for newer players to get used to the mechanics. some of the levels are kinda hard to beat, so i also recommend finding a video guide on the game or watching professional speedruns and seeing how they do things. this isnt really an easy game so even if you know what ya gotta do, it still takes some practice to be able to do efficiently. if you want to know some quick speedrun mechanics however, cause gemskip does require some speedrun tricks to do, you can wall jump off of spikes if you time it correctly. another thing thats possible is that if you space it correctly you can briefly, but i mean barely, get your dash back and walk on the top of spikes, however the window on where you have to land is extremely tight in most cases, and mostly this trick is only used in specfic secetions of gemskip. but yeah, those are my tips for a beginner. if you join the celeste classic discord (which you can find by literally typing celeste classic discord in google), there are people who are better then me to give much advice if you're interested tho.
nice, the game is really hard so seriously, congrats, so the next 2 things you should do is try to beat the game on normal but getting all 12 strawberry's (result is cool, trust me and isnt much harder then beating it normal, other then like 2 strawberry being semihard to get), then the next you should do is the pain in misery that is gemskip. ima just say how to commence it, you have to beat the first level without getting the gem from the chest to commence gemskip, also if you do it correctly the little gem in the top right by the timer will be green instead of the redish pink it is on neutral. gotta warn ya tho, gemskip is really hard so i recommend you pratice normal a few more times before jumping straight into the pain and misery that is gemskip. also, do
wall jump off of spikes doesnt work like that, first you must gain an odd parity by walking into a left border or a left wall, then you can jump off of left facing spikes/spikes on a right wall, hope this clears it up for you!
YEESSSSSSSSSS I DID IT I BEAT 1900 GEMSKIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! am I supposed to somehow skip the second gem or do I just take it and do the rest with two dashes?

Oh that's really cool! I didn't know there was a speedrun page for this. I'll be quieter from now on. Now, what have I gotten myself into with trueskip?
Well unfortunately the page reloaded now and I have to start all over again . . . someday. (btw, on 1400 I ended up having to do the glitch where you can get your dash back from a spike. I thought this was cheese, but there's certainly no way to get the berry without it. Thanks for such an amazing mod!)
Played this on pico8 and this was so good. The levels were very well designed.
If you are trying trueskip etc and want to see the levels if you cannot beat them, you can increase your max jumps in pico8 in console mode
max_djump = 100
you can also disable death by spike by
aaa=kill_player bbb=function() end kill_player=bbb
to continue the game with your changes made type
resume
to make death work again type
kill_player=aaa
Back to comments - I know you only have 56 pico8 symbols left but it would be cool to use the pico8 persistent save functionality to allow save/load of runs so you don't have to complete all runs in one go.
Hi this is the hardest but challenging mod and there is a secret when you are in "Graveyard of the fallen'' room you will see a gap if you go over there you will see a computer if you tap jump button while standing on the computer you can play a penguin snake game have fun!
I love how you can choose to do it without the starting upgrade if you want more of a challenge. I'm trying to do a gemless playthrough now, but I'm stuck on 1200m :P

Awesome mod I beat it with all berries and then tried gemskip but only got so far
you can hyper dash like in the original game just dash+jump while still being on the ground while before jumping

What you called an 'odd parity' is actually called 'gaining subpixels'. Just wanted to clarify
amazing mod, super fun, currently have a best time of 1 hour 15 minutes on gem skip and 5 minutes and 55 sec on normal. havent done true skip yet...

yeah, a save / load system was planned for a long time but it didn't end up happening due to space limitations
